5.01 Understanding the LIA Curriculum
Understand the purpose, structure, and implementation of the Latinos In Action curriculum.
The Purpose of the Curriculum
When not participating in tutoring, students engage in a culturally relevant college and career readiness curriculum designed to support their academic success and future goals.
The curriculum helps students develop leadership skills, strengthen personal assets, and prepare for college, careers, and community involvement.
Curriculum Structure
Latinos In Action provides curriculum for both middle school and high school programs.
Each curriculum contains 13 units and is designed to be taught over multiple years rather than completed in a single school year.
Most teachers cover approximately 3–4 units per year, allowing students to participate in LIA for multiple years without repeating content.
Accessing Curriculum Resources
The curriculum can be accessed through the Latinos In Action website by selecting the Login option in the upper-right corner of the website.
How might the multi-year design of the curriculum benefit students who participate in LIA throughout high school?
