3.03 Planning Tutoring at Your School
Begin planning how elementary tutoring will be implemented at your school and identify key logistical considerations for a successful partnership.
Preparing for Tutoring
Each school's tutoring program will look slightly different based on scheduling, transportation, student enrollment, and elementary school partnerships.
As you prepare to implement tutoring, it is important to begin thinking through the logistics that will help create a successful experience for both your students and their elementary school partners.
Your Regional Program Manager (RPM) and LIA staff will work with you throughout this process.
Key Planning Questions
As you begin planning, consider the following questions:
- Which elementary schools would be good potential partners?
- What time does your LIA class meet?
- Will your class meet daily or on a block schedule?
- Approximately how many students will participate in tutoring?
- What transportation or scheduling considerations might need to be addressed?
Tutoring Planning Reflection
Take a few minutes to think about how tutoring might work at your school.
You do not need to have all the answers yet. The goal is simply to begin identifying opportunities and potential challenges so that LIA staff can better support you.
Support From Your RPM
You are not expected to establish tutoring partnerships on your own.
Your Regional Program Manager and the LIA team will work alongside you to help identify elementary school partners, establish schedules, and ensure tutoring is implemented successfully.
The goal is to create a meaningful service-learning experience that benefits both LIA students and elementary students.
