1.10 The Four Essentials

Learning Objective
Understand the four essential components of the LIA classroom model and how they work together to support student success.

The LIA Classroom Model

The LIA classroom model has proven effective in schools throughout the United States. When the program is implemented with fidelity, students graduate high school on time and enroll in college at a higher rate than the national average.

While it may feel overwhelming at first to plan and include each essential throughout the school year, these four components work together to create a strong and effective LIA classroom.

The Four Essentials of LIA

This model is based on four essentials:

  1. The 30/40/30 Model
  2. Service Learning and Tutoring
  3. Classroom Leadership Committees
  4. Culturally Relevant and College Readiness Curriculum

The Four Essentials help guide how LIA is implemented throughout the school year.
