1.03 What LIA Does

Learning Objective
Understand the purpose, mission, vision, and pillars of Latinos In Action.

What Exactly Does LIA Do?

What exactly does LIA do? How does our program take José's journey and apply it to the classroom?

Latinos In Action is a yearlong elective course designed to help Latino youth meet their potential by:

  1. Leveraging their personal assets,
  2. Excelling in education,
  3. Serving the community, and
  4. Being a leader.

While the core of our program is designed around the secondary student population, its reach extends into all levels of the education system.

Our Mission

Empowering Latino youth to lead and strengthen their communities through college and career readiness. We achieve this through culturally responsive social and emotional learning, college and career readiness, and leadership development.

Our Vision

We are the model of Latino Youth Engagement by leveraging four pillars: Personal Assets, Excellence in Education, Leadership, and Service.

The LIA Pillars

The LIA Pillars are the foundation of our program and are essential for empowering students in the classroom. LIA teachers use the pillars as the underlying motive for all lessons and initiatives.

Our four main pillars are:

  • Personal Assets
  • Excellence in Education
  • Service
  • Leadership

These pillars were the key aspects that helped the LIA founder find success, and they remain key to student success today. They are the stepping stones students need to bridge achievement and opportunity gaps and reach their social, educational, and professional goals.
